Pilot
is part of a race of being who share an existence with another race of
beings know as Leviathans. It is a relationship of sorts in which Pilot's species
bond with the Leviathans, which are living space ships. Pilot
is Moya's control center, biologically and psychically bound to the
leviathan. He is responsible for monitoring and maintaining all of her systems.
He is also responsible for communicating for her,
and worrying for her so she doesn't have to. As a young man Pilot desired nothing more than to be bonded |
| with
a Leviathan and to fly through space with the ship. He had petitioned many
times with his leaders to be given the chance to do so but his race has a
very strict training requirement before the process is approved. They also
have requirements
on age and at the time it was felt that Pilot was too young and not ready.
His deep desire to bond caused him to make a deal with a Peacekeeper
scientist who had created a method of bonding the pilot with a Leviathan
without having to under go the long and intense natural process.
The Peacekeepers
had hoped to use this technology to capture Leviathans and replace the
pilots with ones who were loyal to them. In agreeing to join the
Peacekeepers for this test of the new bonding process, Pilot betrayed his
own people and turned his back on their beliefs. The process worked and at
the cost of his own freedom and the death of the previous pilot, he was
bonded to Moya. Now Pilot and Moya have been liberated from the Peacekeepers by D'Argo, Rygel, and Zhaan. He has grown to trust the new crew and to share in their friendship and experiences. He has a very special bond with Aeryn who now shares some of Pilot's DNA due to an experiment conducted by a mad scientist. |
